If you ever thought homeschooling meant being stuck at home, think again! One of the coolest things about homeschooling is the flexibility it gives us to follow our kids’ interests—whether that’s through hands-on activities, travel, or competitions. And right now, our boys are all about robotics.
They’re both on a 4-H robotics team, which means they get to travel a lot for competitions. We’re gearing up for our next one in San Antonio, Texas, and we couldn’t be more excited. Recently, we took a trip to Dallas and Fort Worth, and it was the perfect mix of robotics, family fun, and new experiences. It’s amazing how much they learn from the whole process, from building their robots to competing, and even just exploring new cities along the way.
One of the best parts of homeschooling is how it lets each of our kids dive into what they’re really passionate about. Of course, those interests change (and change often!), but that’s part of the fun. Whether it’s robotics today, art tomorrow, or something else the next week, they get the space to grow in what excites them. And as parents, we get to be along for the ride—and that’s something I wouldn’t trade for anything.
So, while the road trips can be busy, they’re also full of learning, bonding, and making memories. And we can’t wait for the next stop on this adventure—San Antonio, here we come!
What’s the coolest place your family has traveled to for a competition? We would love to hear all about your trip!
