🌴 Dreaming of Paradise: A Year in the Making

I’m sitting here in Montego Bay, listening to a thunderstorm roll in as I type this blog. Y’all, this trip was one to remember! We spent an entire year planning this getaway, researching everything we could about the resort, reading reviews, and making sure every detail was in place. Well, mostly Jenay did all the research—she’s the planner, making sure we know exactly what we’re getting ourselves into. Me? I’m more of a jump in first, figure it out later kind of traveler. 😆

We chose Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay, Jamaica, but leading up to the trip, we saw mixed reviews—some people raved about the resort, while others mentioned strikes, bad food, overcrowded beaches, and rooms that weren’t up to par. Naturally, we were excited but slightly nervous about what we were walking into.

✈️ The Travel Fiasco: A Lesson in Airport Chaos

Our adventure started bright and early on Friday morning at 3:00 AM. Jenay and her husband, Caleb, picked us up at 4:30 AM, and since our flight wasn’t until 7:35 AM, we figured getting to the airport by 5:30 AM would be plenty of time.

Wrong.

Do y’all remember the old Nokia game Snake? You know how the snake gets longer and starts twisting and turning all over the screen? Well, imagine that—except instead of a snake, it was a massive TSA security line made up of exhausted travelers. It was pure madness, like Christmas Eve at the airport.

Despite waiting patiently, we didn’t make our flight. Jenay and Caleb managed to squeeze through security and sprinted to the terminal—barefoot—but they were four minutes late, and the plane was already gone. The kicker? 30 people missed that same flight!

Y’all, when I say we felt defeated, I mean it. Jenay and I even talked about just going home and calling it quits. But instead, we booked a room at the Marriott right across from the airport, had a surprisingly great dinner at the hotel restaurant, and tried to stay positive. Our husbands, being the rock stars they are, helped lighten the mood, and before long, we were laughing about the whole ordeal.

The next morning, we weren’t taking any chances. We got to the airport at 2:45 AM (yes, you read that right) and were one of the first 20 people in line. TSA didn’t even open until 3:30 AM, but we were determined not to miss this flight.

And finally—after all the drama—we were on our way to paradise.

🏝️ First Impressions of Secrets Wild Orchid

After a smooth flight, we landed in Montego Bay, Jamaica. And let me tell you, all those negative reviews? Completely wrong.

• The views? Breathtaking. The turquoise waters looked like a desktop screensaver.
• The food? Delicious! Flavorful, well-seasoned, and spicy (just how I like it!).
• The beach? Stunning. Crystal-clear water and plenty of space to relax.
• The resort? Absolute luxury.

After checking in, we wasted no time—it was time to unwind, eat all the food, and sip on some rum!

🌊 Our Favorite Jamaica Adventures

One of the highlights of our trip was hiking the famous Dunn’s River Falls. If you ever visit Jamaica, this is an absolute must-do! We climbed the cascading waterfall, and while it was a workout, it was so worth it. There’s something surreal about standing in a waterfall, surrounded by lush greenery, with water rushing over the rocks.

We also got to snorkel in the Caribbean Sea, which was beyond magical. The water was so clear, and we saw colorful fish, coral reefs, and an underwater world straight out of a dream.

Oh, and of course—we couldn’t take Jenay anywhere without her capturing gorgeous sunset photos. Y’all be on the lookout for those because she did her thing! 📸✨

Absolutely, 100%, YES!

This was our first adults-only trip, and let me tell you, it won’t be our last. The resort was perfect, the people were welcoming, and the experience was unforgettable. In fact, we’re already looking into Secrets Resorts & Spas in Spain for our next adventure together!
