How Wild Roots Photography Got Its Name šæšø
When Jenay and I decided to take the leap and become photography business partners, the first major hurdle was⦠what do we even call ourselves?! š¤ Naming a business is no jokeāespecially when you want it to mean something, to feel right.
Naturally, we turned to our favorite brainstorming buddy: ChatGPT (because of course we did).
Letās just say⦠some of the suggestions were a little out there š . We cracked up more than once reading through the list. But somewhere in that long scroll of names, one had the word “wild” in it, and another had “roots”āand something about those two words just felt like us.
A Little Backstory š
Jenay and I met in November of 2023. Before that, our lives were full of change, movement, and adventure. Whatās wild (no pun intended š) is that even though we hadnāt met until then, our stories were strangely similar.
Weāre both originally from the Brazosport areaāsheās from Lake Jackson, and Iām from Freeport. And we both spent nearly a decade away from home, moving all over the place.
Jenay and her husband Caleb spent time living in Colorado and Montana, embracing the opportunity to explore new surroundings and experience life in different parts of the country. As for me? My family and I moved from Kansas to Hawaii (my favorite šŗ), and eventually San Antonio, thanks to my husband Georgeās job. Different paths, same theme: constant motion.
But in 2020, we both found ourselves right back where it all startedāhome.
Why āWild Rootsā š±š«
Even early on in our friendship, we realized we shared this deep belief:
Home isn’t always a placeāit’s a feeling.
Weāve both talked about how we’ve planted roots wherever life has taken us. That adaptability, that sense of adventureāitās a part of who we are. And itās something we pour into our photography too.
So when the name Wild Roots Photography came up, it didnāt just sound cute.
It meant something.
It captured our journeys. Our friendship. Our love for storytelling. And our belief that thereās beauty in wherever you choose to settle and growāeven if itās just for a season. š¾
Now, here we are.
Two friends.
Chasing a dream.
Telling stories.
Capturing love, light, and lifeā¦Wherever our hearts (and cameras) lead us.š·š
Have you ever had to name a business, blog, or even a pet? How did you come up with the name?
